Introduction to Fully Automatic Feeding Lines for Pig Farms

With increasing scale and precision in modern farming and rising labor costs, automatic feeding lines have become widely adopted in pig farms. Automatic feeding systems improve production efficiency and reduce labor costs; enable precise individual feeding to cut feed waste; help control rodents and flies to limit disease spread; provide synchronized mechanical feeding to reduce animal stress; and save on feed packaging, transport, and storage costs. However, the initial investment for an automated feed line is substantial. Many producers seek ways to reduce costs during procurement, but equipment prices are relatively fixed — the main way to lower average cost is to extend the service life of the system. Extending lifespan requires a well-designed installation and assembly plan. This article presents planning proposals for automatic feed lines based on three commonly used configurations, ensuring economically practical installations for pig houses.

Two Common Feeding Line Systems for Pig Farms

Auger Feeding Line
Equipment configuration: feed line, feed line motor, conveying pipe (PVC), drop pipes, feed troughs, hopper, and other matching accessories as needed (for example: sow gestation crate, farrowing crate, wet-dry feeders, etc.).
Feed pipe: PVC conveying pipe available in diameters such as φ63, φ75, and φ110.
Equipment features: enables fully automatic feeding for pigs, improves farm efficiency, and can be sized according to operation scale.
Scope of application: suitable for sow barns, finishing houses, nurseries, and other pig facilities. Advantage: auger systems are generally less expensive than disc chain systems.

Disc Chain Feeding Line
Equipment configuration: wire-rope nylon chain or stainless-steel chain, hopper, power box, reducer feed inlet, galvanized feed tube, dispenseers, troughs, drop pipes, and other matching accessories as needed (for example: sow gestation crate, farrowing crate, wet-dry feeders, etc.).
Scope of application: suitable for sow barns, finishing houses, nurseries, and other pig facilities. Disc chain feeding lines are the most widely used and currently regarded as the best automated feeding system in pig farms.
